There are a number of different SD-WAN solutions on the market today, however most of them fall in to one of three categories. These categories include premise-based SD-WAN, where routing decisions are made by the hardware at the customers site, cloud-based SD-WAN, where all of the customers traffic is backhauled to a data center and the routing decision is made at the data center, and an enhanced version of legacy firewalls which includes primarily WAN failover functionality.
